MEME 2015 Feedback Loop – presented in partnership with Manitoba Music

Have a track that has been rocking your home studio, and want to take the next step with it? A new addition to the 2015 festival, MEME, Manitoba Music and John Norman bring you Feedback Loop: a workshop and listening session that gives producers the opportunity to have their tracks reviewed and critiqued by a panel of four industry professionals. Participating tracks will be played and discussed from a production standpoint, and producers will receive constructive feedback from the panel offering their perspective as DJs, producers, A&R reps, publishers, and as a music journalist. Participants will listen to new music alongside the experts, learn what they listen for when hearing new demos, and be part of the discussion about what makes a strong first impression and why. This is a chance for artists to meet and discuss their work with fellow producers, while getting personal feedback from a distinguished panel from both a craft and business point of view.

Electronic and hip-hop producers of all levels are welcome. It is not necessary to bring a song to attend and hear what the panelists have to say.

The panel for Feedback Loop includes Balanced Record label owner Adam Hannibal and Andrew Ryce, North American editor for Resident Advisor, and contributor for Pitchfork, along with two Winnipeg-bred but internationally acclaimed artists — DJ and producer LAMBO (Mad Decent) and DJ, producer, label owner and publisher John Norman (UNT Records, KMS Records, Thoughtless, Natura Viva). The panel will be moderated by Manitoba Music’s Anthony Augustine and is part of the organization’s MusicWorks workshop series.

Andrew Ryce is the North American Editor at Resident Advisor, the world's biggest electronic music magazine, where he has worked for three years. His writing, specializing in dance music, has also appeared in Pitchfork, FACT Magazine, XLR8R and other publications. He lives in Vancouver.

Whether through his live performances, original tracks, or remixes, his obsession with sound can be heard loud and clear. John has established himself as one of the new and exciting voices in the techno world with his rhythm driven yet melodic productions, having caught the ear of techno luminaries such as Kevin Saunderson, Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin, and Carl Cox. 2014 saw John’s first release for Saunderson’s legendary KMS Records, and he has since released several successful originals and remixes for the label, including Resonance which was a part of the highly anticipated Space Ibiza 25th Anniversary compilation.
